Special AMC 12 Seminar (Version B)

This course is a special 5-hour weekend seminar to prepare for the AMC 12, which is the first in the series of tests used to determine the United States team at the International Math Olympiad. Many top colleges also request AMC scores as part of the college application process. In this course, students learn problem solving strategies and test-taking tactics. The course also includes a practice AMC 12 test. This course is entirely different from the Special AMC 12 Seminar (Version A).

Who Should Take?

This class is appropriate for students who are hoping to pass the AMC 12. If a student already consistently scores above 120 on the AMC 12, this class is probably not necessary, and if a student is unlikely to score more than 80, then that student should start with some of our Introduction series of classes or the AMC 10 Problem Series. The material for this class is distinct from the Special AMC 12 Seminar (Version A).

Lessons

1 Counting and Number Theory
2 Algebra and Geometry

This was the best math course I have ever taken. I have always been very strong in math and have taken many challenging courses. Intermediate Algebra challenged me at a greater level. Writing problems are the main way that Intermediate Algebra challenged me at a new level. If I had not taken this course, I never would have known the complex proof methods I have learned. The writing problems have also made me more prepared to succeed at contests like the Mandelbrot Competition and the USAMO, as I have learned proof-writing strategies. I always like to know a lot about topics, especially topics that I have a passion for, like math. Intermediate Algebra fulfilled that desire. This was also a great help for preparing for contests like the AMC 12. All in all, this was an excellent course.
